Beyond the Checkbox: What Performative Accessibility Really Looks Like

Performative accessibility is when companies take actions that appear inclusive but fail to meet the actual access needs of disabled people. These actions may check off a compliance requirement or look good in a press release, but they don’t result in meaningful usability or lasting impact.

The Year in Review – 2015

It’s been a while since I last wrote blog posts on this website. Many things were going on in the past couple years.

First, I wanted to share the highlight of this year which is publication of my book – it took me a year and half to write, edit, and design as well as attending book publishing events and learning ropes of self publishing. I will write a more detailed blog post about this after the holidays. Meanwhile, you can check out my book online. It’s titled “Sound Is Not Enough: Captioning as Universal Design.”
