Travel opens the door to discovery, adventure, and cultural connection. But for millions of disabled people — especially deaf travelers like myself — these experiences are often marked by exclusion, frustration, and second-class treatment. While hearing foreigners receive concierge-level support like multilingual signs, interpreters, and guides, deaf and disabled visitors are often left to fend for themselves. This glaring inequality is more than an inconvenience — it’s a civil rights issue.

The Americans with the Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed on July 26, 1990 by President Bush. It has been 30 years since the landmark law was passed to protect people with disabilities in the USA. I wrote an article about the ADA 3 years ago – that I would suggest to read first before continuing on here.
