It’s been a while since I last wrote blog posts on this website. Many things were going on in the past couple years.
First, I wanted to share the highlight of this year which is publication of my book – it took me a year and half to write, edit, and design as well as attending book publishing events and learning ropes of self publishing. I will write a more detailed blog post about this after the holidays. Meanwhile, you can check out my book online. It’s titled “Sound Is Not Enough: Captioning as Universal Design.”
Secondly, I took Product Management classes at General Assembly and enjoyed them very much. It’s a great addition to my skill set. I learned about many PM components such as Business Model/Lean Canvas, MVP, metrics, customer cycle, financial modeling, roadmaps and so on – in addition to other components that I already know such as customer interviewing, competitive analysis, personas, user stories, wireframes, etc. If you need me for user experience or accessibility consulting or product management projects, contact me.
I continued attending conferences and presented at some of them. All conferences I attended this year were accessible not only via sign language interpreters upon my request, but also open live captions for the whole audience (without any advance request) which is a great progress. I appreciate event organizers listening to my advice on best practices. Contact me if you want me to speak at your event or conference and/or need my consulting to make your event accessible.
While I did not write blog posts on this website, I published some in other places:
- How Quality Captioning Benefits Both Customers and Businesses;
- A Note to Businesses – Why Voice Phone Calls Are a Thing of the Past.
- Double Standard: “Diversity & Inclusion” for Women Does Not Apply to Deaf Women
I plan on resuming blog writing starting next month.
Hope you are enjoying the holiday season and wishing you happy New Year!
